Who pays me?
The company producing the event or festival is responsible for all and any payments due, tax, superannuation and any other financial, legal and taxation matters required by law.
What about insurance?
Each position/event is different.
You will need to check the requirements and coverage when applying. For some paid positions you will go on the company’s payroll (PAYG) and are covered this way other positions may require you to have your own Public Liability Insurance (PLI).
Can Sitecrew help with public liability insurance?
Yes, but at a cost if you want to find out more about this service contact Sitecrew for more information.
I want to volunteer do I need public liability insurance (PLI)?
No, volunteers do not require PLI.
Am I covered if I am injured at the event?
Each event/festival is different and depends on the nature of your engagement. Always make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the position.
Volunteers are typically covered for any injury related expenses. Self –employed contractors would typically be required to have own medical insurance coverage.
If your payment is put through payroll (PAYG) you will be covered.
Tax, GST, pay rates, I have a lot of questions as I am just starting out?
Sitecrew cannot give legal or tax advice. You need to get professional help: accountants, the Australian Taxation Office and other government websites can all provide useful information.
What do I wear?
Each position will have its own requirements but you should always be clean, and tidy, closed toe shoes as a minimum are required on many event sites and some positions will require boots. Always be sunsmart as a lot of the positions will be based outdoors or include outdoor work.
Remember to dress for work not for the event.
